Rocks That Change!
Metamorphic means 'changed form!' When existing rocks get buried deep underground, they experience extreme HEAT and PRESSURE. The heat and pressure do not melt the rock (that would make igneous rock), but they squeeze and cook it enough to change its minerals and structure. The rock becomes a completely different type of rock! It is like taking bread dough and pressing it in a waffle iron β same stuff, new shape and texture.
