The Asteroid Belt
Between Mars and Jupiter lies the asteroid belt β a ring of millions of rocky chunks that never formed into a planet! Asteroids range from tiny pebbles to Ceres, which is so big it is called a dwarf planet (about 580 miles wide). Jupiter's strong gravity prevented these rocks from coming together into a planet. The asteroid belt marks the boundary between the inner rocky planets and the outer gas giants.
