Rain Gauges — Measuring Rainfall

A rain gauge is a simple tool that measures how much rain falls! It is basically a clear tube or container with measurement marks on the side. You place it outside in the open (not under a tree or roof), and as rain falls, it collects in the tube. After the rain, you read the level to see how many inches of rain fell. A rain gauge is one of the oldest weather tools — people have measured rain for thousands of years!
