Same Situation, Different Views
Perspective means how you SEE something β your point of view. And here is a fascinating fact: two people can experience the EXACT same situation and see it completely differently!
Example:
It starts raining.
- A farmer thinks: 'Great! My crops need water!'
- A kid at a picnic thinks: 'Oh no! Our picnic is ruined!'
- A duck thinks: 'Perfect weather!'
Same rain, THREE different perspectives. And none of them are WRONG. They are just different because each person has different needs and experiences.
Another example:
The teacher gives a surprise test.
- Student who studied thinks: 'Yes! I am ready for this!'
- Student who did not study thinks: 'Oh no, I am not prepared!'
- The teacher thinks: 'I hope this helps me understand what they have learned.'
Understanding that people see things differently is one of the most important parts of empathy.
