Big and Small

The Spanish word for big is grande! It sounds like GRAHN-deh. An elephant is grande. A house is grande. The ocean is grande. You can describe anything big with grande: un perro grande means a big dog. Una mesa grande means a big table. Notice that in Spanish, the describing word (adjective) usually comes AFTER the thing it describes. In English we say big dog, but in Spanish we say perro grande!
