Impressionism: Capturing Light

In the 1870s in France, a group of artists started painting in a completely new way. Instead of creating perfectly smooth, detailed pictures indoors, they went OUTSIDE and painted quickly to capture how light and color looked at that exact moment. Critics called their work 'impressions' as an insult, but the name stuck — and Impressionism became one of the most loved art movements ever!
