Beyond Reality
Surrealism started in the 1920s when artists decided to paint their dreams, imagination, and the strange world of the subconscious mind. Surrealist art shows impossible scenes: melting clocks, floating rocks, fish with legs, and staircases that go nowhere. The word 'surreal' means 'beyond real,' and Surrealists wanted to surprise, amaze, and make you think!
