What Is an Interval?
An interval is the distance between two notes. If you play C and then D, that is an interval of a 2nd (two note names apart). C to E is a 3rd. C to G is a 5th. C to the next C is an octave (8th). Each interval has its own unique sound and feeling. Small intervals (2nds and 3rds) sound smooth and close. Large intervals (5ths and octaves) sound wide and dramatic.
