Buzzing Lips Make Sound
Brass instruments are made of shiny metal tubes. Sound is made by buzzing your lips into a cup-shaped mouthpiece! The vibrations travel through the tube and come out the bell (the wide, flared end). The longer the tube, the lower the sound. A tuba's tube, if uncoiled, would stretch over 16 feet! Brass instruments are the LOUDEST section in the orchestra.
