What Does a Conductor Do?
The conductor stands in front of the orchestra and leads everyone with a baton (a thin stick). They set the TEMPO (speed), cue each section when to play, control DYNAMICS (loud and soft), and shape the music's expression. Without a conductor, 80+ musicians would have trouble staying together! The conductor studies the score (a book showing all instrument parts) and decides how the music should sound.
