Five Lines and Four Spaces

Music is written on a set of five horizontal lines called the staff. Notes sit either ON the lines or IN the spaces between them. Each position represents a different pitch (how high or low a sound is). The higher a note sits on the staff, the higher it sounds. The lower a note sits, the deeper it sounds. Reading the staff is like reading a map for sounds!
