Metaphors Say IS, Not Like

A metaphor compares two things by saying one thing IS the other thing. It does NOT use like or as. Instead of saying She is like a star, a metaphor says She IS a star. The author does not literally mean she is a ball of gas in space. It means she shines and stands out, just like a star does.
