Taxes, Taxes, Taxes!
The 13 colonies belonged to Britain and were ruled by King George III. After fighting a costly war with France, Britain needed money and started taxing the colonists on tea, paper, stamps, and glass. The colonists were furious! They had no representatives in the British Parliament to vote on these taxes.
