Three Colonial Regions
The 13 colonies were divided into three regions. The New England colonies (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire) had cold winters and rocky soil. The Middle colonies (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware) had rich farmland. The Southern colonies (Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia) had warm weather and large plantations.
