Major Native American Groups

The Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) lived in the Eastern Woodlands of what is now New York. They built longhouses, formed a powerful confederacy of six nations, and farmed corn, beans, and squash (called the Three Sisters). The Cherokee, another important group, lived in the Southeast and had their own written language.
