Map Projections

Here is a tricky problem: the Earth is a sphere (round like a ball), but most maps are flat. When you try to show a round surface on a flat piece of paper, some things get stretched or squished. This is called distortion. It is like trying to flatten an orange peel — it will tear or stretch!
