The Engineering Design Process
Real bridge engineers follow a design process: 1) IDENTIFY the problem (what needs crossing?), 2) RESEARCH the site (how wide? what soil?), 3) BRAINSTORM solutions (which bridge type?), 4) DESIGN the bridge (measurements, materials), 5) BUILD a model and TEST it, 6) IMPROVE the design based on test results. This cycle of design-test-improve is how all engineering works!
