Compass Rose and Directions
When you look at a map, you will often see a special symbol called a compass rose. This compass rose is very important because it shows us the four main directions: North, South, East, and West. To help you remember these directions easily, you can use a fun phrase: 'Never Eat Soggy Waffles.' Just think of this phrase as you go around the compass in a clockwise direction! But wait, there’s more! There are also in-between directions that we can use, which are called northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest. These extra directions help us understand exactly where things are located on a map, making it easier for us to find our way around the world. So, the next time you use a map, remember to look for the compass rose and think about those tasty waffles to help you remember your directions!
