What a Style Guide Contains
A brand style guide is the rulebook that ensures every person who touches the brand—designers, marketers, partners, vendors—produces consistent visual communication. Essential sections include: Brand Story (mission, values, positioning), Logo Usage (versions, clear space, minimum sizes, incorrect usage), Color Palette (specifications across systems), Typography (typefaces, scale, hierarchy), Photography Style (mood, composition, subject guidelines), Illustration Style (if applicable), Iconography, Voice and Tone (writing personality), and Application Examples (business cards, social media, packaging). The guide should be detailed enough that a designer unfamiliar with the brand can produce on-brand work without asking questions.
