The 6-Week 165β170 Intensive Plan Structure
Candidates already scoring 160β165 who target 165β170 have a fundamentally different preparation challenge than beginners: they have no significant content gaps. Their preparation must focus on (1) eliminating the specific error patterns causing their 1β3 missed questions per section, (2) improving accuracy under time pressure through deep repetition of official hard questions, and (3) developing the mental discipline to maintain near-perfect accuracy across a full test session. Week 1: take a full-length official practice test under strict timed conditions. Analyze every error for type (execution, misread, content, time pressure) and which specific question types caused errors. Create a personal error log. Week 2β3: drill exclusively on the question types in your error log. Use only official ETS questions (PowerPrep or Official GRE Guide hard sections). Practice under timed conditions for each question type individually. Week 4: take two timed section practices (one Quant, one Verbal) back-to-back to build concentration under extended pressure. Week 5: take two full-length practice tests, analyzing errors after each. By Week 5, error rates should be dropping to 1β2 errors per section. Week 6: light review and mental preparation. Take one final full-length test for confidence calibration. No new content in Week 6 β consolidation only. Time investment: this plan requires 4β5 hours per week minimum; 6β8 hours produces faster improvement. The critical variable is not total hours but the proportion of hours spent on official hard questions with post-error analysis.
