Inside the Egg
An egg is like a tiny spaceship for a growing chick! Inside the shell, the yellow yolk provides food for the growing baby. The clear part (egg white or albumen) cushions the chick and provides water and protein. There is a thin membrane lining the shell and a small air pocket at the fat end of the egg. If a rooster has fertilized the egg, a tiny spot on the yolk starts growing into a baby chick. Not all eggs become chicks β the eggs you eat for breakfast are unfertilized and have no baby inside!
