Life in the Chicken Coop

A chicken coop is a special house for chickens! It needs roosting bars (wooden poles) for chickens to sleep on — chickens like to sleep up high where predators cannot reach them. It needs nesting boxes filled with soft straw where hens lay their eggs. The coop needs good ventilation (air flow) so it does not get too hot or smelly. The floor is covered with straw or wood shavings. A small door leads to an outdoor run where chickens can scratch in the dirt, eat bugs, and take dust baths!
