Tiny Babies Called Kits
Baby rabbits are called kits (or kittens — same word as baby cats!). Kits are born with their eyes closed and without any fur! They are tiny, pink, and helpless. A mommy rabbit can have 4 to 12 kits at once! She makes a cozy nest lined with her own soft fur to keep them warm. The mommy only visits the nest once or twice a day to feed her babies — she stays away the rest of the time so predators do not find the nest by following her scent.
