What Are Secondary Colors?
Here is where the magic happens! When you mix two primary colors together, you create a brand new color called a secondary color. There are three secondary colors: orange, green, and purple.
Secondary means second, because these colors come second, after the primary colors. You need primary colors first before you can make secondary colors.
The three mixing recipes are:
- Red + Yellow = Orange (like a juicy orange fruit!)
- Blue + Yellow = Green (like grass and leaves!)
- Red + Blue = Purple (like grapes and plums!)
Isn't that amazing? With just three starting colors, you can already make six different colors!
