Mixing Colors with Your Hands

Here is something amazing: you can make NEW colors just by smooshing two colors together with your hands!

There are three special colors called primary colors: red, yellow, and blue. These are the boss colors because you cannot make them by mixing other colors. But you CAN mix them together to make brand new colors!

When you smoosh red and yellow together — surprise! You get ORANGE! The red and yellow blend together to make a warm, sunny orange color.

When you smoosh blue and yellow together — you get GREEN! Blue and yellow swirl together to make a fresh, leafy green.

When you smoosh red and blue together — you get PURPLE! Red and blue mix into a beautiful, rich purple.

The new colors you make are called secondary colors. Orange, green, and purple are all secondary colors because they are made from two primary colors mixed together.
