Fold a Boat and an Airplane

This paper boat is special because it can actually float on water! You will need a rectangular piece of paper for this one, not a square.

Step 1: Hold your rectangle with the long sides at the top and bottom. Valley fold it in half from top to bottom.

Step 2: Now valley fold it in half from left to right, crease it, then unfold. This just marks the center line.

Step 3: Take the top two corners and fold them down to meet at the center line. You now have a shape that looks like a pointy hat or a house roof.

Step 4: There is a rectangular strip at the bottom. Fold the front strip up. Flip the whole thing over and fold the back strip up too.

Step 5: Open the bottom and flatten it into a diamond shape. Then fold the bottom triangle of the diamond up on each side.

Step 6: Open the bottom again and flatten it into a smaller diamond. Now gently pull the top two points apart and your boat pops open!

Try floating your boat in the bathtub or a bowl of water. It really floats!
