Shapes Hide in Art
Did you know that every painting is full of hidden shapes? Even paintings that look very realistic are built on circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares.
When you look at a painting of a house, the building is a rectangle, the roof is a triangle, and the windows are squares. But shapes hide in less obvious places too! A person standing with their legs apart makes a triangle. A face is an oval, which is a stretched circle. Arms bent at the elbow make triangles.
Artists plan their paintings using shapes before they add any details. This helps them figure out where to put things and how to make the painting feel balanced. Looking for shapes in art is like being a detective solving a puzzle!
