Geometric vs Organic Shapes
So far we have learned about geometric shapes like circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles. These shapes have smooth edges, clear corners, and look very neat and organized. You can measure them with a ruler.
But there is another kind of shape called organic shapes! Organic shapes are the free-form shapes found in nature. They are not perfect or regular. Think of the shape of a leaf, a cloud, a puddle, or a rock. No two are exactly alike!
Geometric shapes are made by humans: buildings, tiles, screens, and boxes. Organic shapes are made by nature: flowers, animals, mountains, and rivers.
Both types of shapes are important in art. Many artists mix geometric and organic shapes together in their artwork.
