Printing with Stamps
Stamp printing is a super fun way to make art! Here is how it works: you press an object into paint, then press that object onto paper. When you lift it up, the shape of the object is printed on the paper! You can stamp the same shape over and over again.
People have been making prints for thousands of years! Long ago, people carved shapes into wood blocks, dipped them in ink, and pressed them onto paper to print words and pictures. That is how books were made before there were printing machines!
You can make stamps from lots of things. A potato cut in half can be carved into any shape. A sponge can be cut into a star, heart, or circle. Even your hand is a stamp β press it in paint and stamp it on paper for a handprint!
The cool thing about stamps is that every time you press them down, you get the SAME shape. That makes it easy to repeat a shape many times to make patterns, borders, and designs.
