What Is a Pattern?
A pattern is something that repeats over and over again in the same order. Patterns are everywhere!
Look at a zebra β black stripe, white stripe, black stripe, white stripe. That is a pattern!
Look at a checkerboard β black square, red square, black square, red square. That is a pattern!
Listen to a song β clap, clap, stomp, clap, clap, stomp. That is a pattern!
Patterns have a core that repeats. The core is the smallest part of the pattern that gets repeated. In black, white, black, white β the core is black, white. In clap, clap, stomp, clap, clap, stomp β the core is clap, clap, stomp.
With stamp printing, you can make beautiful visual patterns! Use your stamps to print shapes in a repeating order. The key is to decide what your core pattern is and then keep repeating it across the paper.
