Day by Day Changes
Your bean experiment is underway! Let us see what happens day by day.
Days 1-2: Nothing seems to happen on the outside, but under the soil something exciting is going on! The bean is soaking up water and getting bigger. The seed coat is getting soft.
Days 3-4: If you look through the clear cup, you might see a tiny white root poking out of the bean. This root is called a radicle, and it grows DOWN into the soil to find water and nutrients.
Days 5-7: The root gets longer and the stem starts to push UP through the soil. The stem is curved like a hook because it is pushing hard against the soil.
Days 7-10: The green stem breaks through the surface! You can see your first tiny leaves starting to unfold. Your bean is now a baby plant called a seedling!
