Roots, Stem, and Leaves
Now that your bean is growing, let us learn the names of its parts and what each part does.
ROOTS: The roots are underground. They have two important jobs. First, they anchor the plant in the soil so it does not fall over. Second, they soak up water and nutrients from the soil, like a straw drinking water.
STEM: The stem is the green stalk that holds the plant upright. It is like a highway that carries water from the roots up to the leaves, and food from the leaves down to the roots.
LEAVES: The leaves are the green flat parts at the top. They are like tiny food factories! Leaves catch sunlight and use it to turn water and air into food for the plant. This amazing process is called photosynthesis.
