Ice Melts, But How Fast?
You already know that ice melts. Leave an ice cube on the counter and it slowly turns into a puddle of water. But have you ever wondered: is there something you can put on ice to make it melt FASTER?
In winter, you might have seen grown-ups putting salt on icy sidewalks. Why do they do that? Does salt really melt ice? And is salt the only thing that works, or would sugar work too? What about sand? Or warm water?
These are great science questions! Today you are going to test four different materials on ice cubes to find out which one melts ice the fastest. You will use salt, sugar, sand, and warm water. Before you start, you will predict which one you think will win the ice melting race!
