Start the Timer!
Everything is set up and it is time to start the experiment! Add each material to its ice cube at the same time, then start the timer.
Now watch carefully. This is the observation step of the scientific method. You need to watch all five ice cubes and notice what happens.
After just a few minutes, you might see differences already. Some ice cubes will look like they are melting faster than others. You might see puddles forming under some but not others.
As each ice cube completely melts, write down the time! Who crossed the finish line first? Keep watching until all five have melted.
Important: Do not touch the ice cubes during the experiment! If you touch some but not others, that makes the test unfair because your warm hands would add heat.
