The Magic of Magnets
Have you ever played with a magnet? Magnets seem almost magical! They can pull certain objects toward them without even touching them. But magnets are not magic. They are science!
A magnet creates an invisible force field around it called a magnetic field. This force field can pull certain objects toward the magnet. When an object sticks to a magnet, we say the magnet attracts it.
But here is the interesting part: magnets do not attract everything! A magnet will pull a paper clip right off the table, but it will not do anything to a wooden pencil or a rubber eraser. Why not? That is what we are going to find out in our experiments!
Magnets are used in many things around you: refrigerator magnets, compass needles, electric motors, and even inside your tablet or phone!
