Setting Up the Experiment
Let us build our rain cloud model! Here are the steps:
Step 1: Fill a clear jar or glass about three-quarters full with water. This represents the ocean or lake below the clouds.
Step 2: Spray a thick layer of shaving cream on top of the water. This is your cloud! Make it puffy and thick, just like a real cumulus cloud.
Step 3: Get your food coloring ready. You can use blue for rain, but try mixing colors for a rainbow rain effect!
Step 4: Using a dropper or a spoon, slowly add drops of food coloring onto the top of the shaving cream cloud.
Now watch carefully. What happens at first? The shaving cream holds the food coloring inside it. The cloud is absorbing the water, just like a real cloud!
