Garden in a Pot!
You do not need a big yard to grow vegetables! You can start a garden in a simple pot on a windowsill or balcony.
What you need:
- A pot or container with holes in the bottom (for water to drain out)
- Potting soil (special soil for containers β lighter and fluffier than garden dirt)
- Seeds (lettuce, beans, or cherry tomatoes are great for beginners!)
- Water
- A sunny spot (a window that gets at least 6 hours of sun)
How to plant:
1. Fill your pot with potting soil, leaving about an inch at the top
2. Read the seed packet β it tells you how deep and far apart to plant
3. Make small holes with your finger
4. Drop 1-2 seeds in each hole
5. Cover gently with soil
6. Water gently until the soil is moist but not soaking
7. Put in a sunny spot
8. Water whenever the top of the soil feels dry
Now wait and watch! Check your pot every day. In a few days to two weeks, you should see tiny green sprouts poking through the soil. That is your plant saying hello!
