The Food Journey
Every food you eat takes a long journey before it reaches your plate! Let us follow an apple's adventure:
Stop 1 β The Farm: An apple farmer in Washington state plants apple trees, waters them, protects them from pests, and waits months for the apples to grow. When they are ripe, workers carefully pick each apple by hand so it does not bruise.
Stop 2 β The Packing House: Apples are washed, sorted by size and quality, and packed into boxes. Any bruised or damaged apples are removed.
Stop 3 β The Truck: Refrigerated trucks carry the boxes of apples across the country. The truck keeps them cold so they stay fresh. A truck might drive for days!
Stop 4 β The Distribution Center: A big warehouse where food from many farms comes together. Workers sort the food and send it to different stores.
Stop 5 β The Grocery Store: Store workers unpack the apples and arrange them in the produce section. They mist them with water to keep them fresh.
Stop 6 β Your Home: Your family buys the apples, brings them home, washes them, and you eat a delicious, juicy apple!
