Earth: The Blue Planet
Our planet Earth is truly amazing! If you could zoom way out into space and look at Earth, you would see a beautiful blue and green ball floating in the darkness.
The BLUE parts are water β oceans, seas, rivers, and lakes.
The GREEN and BROWN parts are land β continents, islands, mountains, and deserts.
Here is a mind-blowing fact: about 70 percent of Earth is covered in WATER! That means if you divided Earth into 10 equal parts, 7 parts would be water and only 3 would be land. That is why Earth is sometimes called the 'Blue Planet.'
A globe is a model of Earth β a small ball that looks just like our planet. On a globe, you can see the shapes of the land (called continents) and the oceans between them. The globe spins just like the real Earth spins!
Looking at a globe is like being an astronaut looking at Earth from space. Pretty cool, right?
