Mountains and Hills
MOUNTAINS are very tall landforms that rise high above the surrounding area. They have pointed or rounded tops called peaks or summits. Some mountains are so tall that they have snow on top even in summer!
Famous mountains:
- Mount Everest (in Asia) is the TALLEST mountain on Earth β 29,032 feet high!
- Mount Kilimanjaro (in Africa) rises alone from flat land
- Mount Fuji (in Japan) is a beautiful cone-shaped volcano
HILLS are like small mountains. They are raised areas of land but not as tall or steep as mountains. Hills are usually rounded on top and easier to walk up.
Mountains and hills formed over millions of years! Some were pushed up when huge pieces of Earth's crust crashed into each other (like wrinkling a tablecloth by pushing from both sides). Some mountains are volcanoes that built up from lava.
People who live near mountains enjoy hiking, skiing, and amazing views. Mountain air is fresh and cool!
