Why Go to the Dentist?
Going to the dentist twice a year is one of the best things you can do for your teeth! But why?
The dentist can see problems you cannot. Even if your teeth look fine to you, the dentist uses special tools and X-rays to find tiny cavities, gum problems, or other issues before they become big problems. Catching problems early means easier, less painful fixes!
Professional cleaning gets your teeth super clean. Even with great brushing and flossing, some plaque (the sticky film of bacteria) hardens into tartar, which can only be removed with special dental tools. The dental hygienist scrapes away tartar and polishes your teeth until they sparkle.
Fluoride treatment strengthens your enamel. The dentist may apply a fluoride gel or varnish to your teeth, which is like giving your enamel a suit of armor against cavities.
Dentists check how your teeth are growing. They make sure your adult teeth are coming in properly and that your bite (how your top and bottom teeth fit together) is healthy.
