MyPlate: Your Guide to Healthy Eating
MyPlate is a simple picture that shows you how to eat healthy! It looks like a dinner plate divided into four sections, with a small circle beside it (like a glass of milk).
The five food groups on MyPlate are:
1. Fruits (red section) β apples, bananas, oranges, berries, grapes
2. Vegetables (green section) β broccoli, carrots, spinach, peas, corn
3. Grains (orange section) β bread, rice, pasta, cereal, oatmeal
4. Protein (purple section) β chicken, fish, beans, eggs, nuts
5. Dairy (blue circle) β milk, cheese, yogurt
Each food group gives your body different important things called nutrients. To be healthy and strong, you need to eat foods from ALL five groups every day!
Think of your body like a car. A car needs different fluids to run properly β gas, oil, coolant. Your body needs different nutrients from different food groups to run properly too!
