Everyday Foods and Sometimes Foods
All foods can be part of a healthy diet, but some foods are best eaten EVERY DAY and others are best saved for SOMETIMES.
Everyday foods are foods you can eat often because they give your body lots of good nutrients:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Whole grain bread and brown rice
- Lean meats, fish, beans, and eggs
- Milk, yogurt, and cheese
- Water!
Sometimes foods are foods that taste great but do not give your body much nutrition. They are fine to eat once in a while, but not every day:
- Candy and chocolate
- Chips and french fries
- Soda and sugary juice drinks
- Cookies and cake
- Ice cream (in large amounts)
The key word is BALANCE. Eating a cookie after a healthy lunch is perfectly fine! But eating cookies instead of lunch means your body misses out on the nutrients it needs.
