The Outside of a Book

The FRONT COVER is the very first thing you see when you pick up a book. It is like the face of the book! The front cover usually has:

• A colorful PICTURE that gives you a clue about the story

• The TITLE — the name of the book

• The AUTHOR'S name — the person who wrote the words

Sometimes the front cover also has the ILLUSTRATOR'S name — the person who drew the pictures. The front cover helps you decide: 'Do I want to read this book?'
