Body Percussion with Songs
Body percussion is even more fun when you combine it with singing! You can add claps, stomps, and pats to songs you already know.
Let us try We Will Rock You β the famous rhythm that everyone knows:
Stomp, stomp, CLAP! Stomp, stomp, CLAP!
That pattern is: two stomps followed by one clap. Stomp stomp CLAP, stomp stomp CLAP. It repeats over and over. This rhythm is so powerful that stadiums full of thousands of people do it together!
Now try adding body percussion to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star:
Pat your thighs on each syllable: pat-pat pat-pat pat-pat pat (Twin-kle twin-kle lit-tle star)
Clap on the strong beats: CLAP rest CLAP rest CLAP rest CLAP (TWIN-kle TWIN-kle LIT-tle STAR)
You can add body percussion to ANY song:
Pat the beat while you sing.
Clap on certain words for emphasis.
Stomp on the strong beats.
Snap along to the rhythm.
Singing and doing body percussion at the same time is a great challenge for your brain. Your body and voice have to do different things at the same time. It is like patting your head and rubbing your tummy!
