What Is Melody?
A melody is a series of musical notes played one after another that creates a tune. It is the part of the song you sing or hum!
Think of any song you know. The part you sing is the melody. When you hum 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,' you are humming the melody. The melody is like the story of the song β it goes on a journey through different pitches.
Melodies can move in three directions:
Up: The notes get higher and higher, like climbing stairs. This sounds bright and exciting!
Down: The notes get lower and lower, like going down a slide. This can sound calming or sad.
Same: The notes stay at the same pitch, like walking on flat ground. This can sound steady or suspenseful.
Most melodies mix all three directions! They go up for a while, then come back down, then maybe stay the same, then go up again. It is like a musical roller coaster!
