Percussion Instruments for Kids
Percussion instruments are instruments you hit, shake, or scrape to make sound. They are the easiest instruments for beginners because you do not need to read music or learn finger positions β you just hit them!
Here are some fun percussion instruments:
Drum: Hit it with your hand or a stick. BOOM! Drums make the deepest sounds and are great for keeping the beat.
Tambourine: Shake it or tap it against your hand. The little metal discs on the side jingle and shimmer!
Maracas: Shake them! They are filled with small beads that rattle. One in each hand means double the fun!
Triangle: Hit this metal triangle with a metal stick. TING! It makes a beautiful ringing sound.
Claves: Two wooden sticks you clap together. CLICK! Simple but effective.
You can even make your own instruments! A pot and wooden spoon make a drum. Dried beans in a sealed container make maracas. Two pencils make claves!
