Bells and Triangles
Bells and triangles make beautiful RINGING sounds that shimmer in the air!
Jingle bells: these are small metal bells attached to a handle or strap. When you shake them, they jingle and ring! The sound is bright, sparkly, and cheerful. Jingle bells are used in holiday music, sleigh rides, and lots of children's songs.
Triangle: a metal bar bent into a triangle shape, hung from a string. You hit it with a small metal stick called a beater. TING! The triangle makes a clear, ringing sound that lasts for a long time. To stop the ringing, touch the triangle with your hand.
Hand bells: individual bells that you hold and swing. Each bell plays a different note! A whole set of hand bells can play melodies.
What makes bells and triangles ring? They are made of metal, and metal vibrates for a long time when you hit it. The vibrations travel through the air as sound waves, which your ears hear as a ringing tone.
Bells and triangles are great for marking special moments in music β the beginning of a song, a high point, or a gentle ending. One single TING on a triangle can make a whole room go quiet!
