Trees Wake Up from Winter Sleep
When spring arrives, something magical happens to trees! After sleeping through the cold winter, trees start to wake up. The days get longer and warmer, and rain showers bring water to the tree's roots deep underground.
Tiny buds appear on the branches. These buds are like little packages wrapped in a protective coating. Inside each bud, a tiny leaf or flower is waiting to come out! As the weather gets warmer, the buds swell up and begin to open.
Some trees, like cherry trees and apple trees, grow beautiful flowers called blossoms before their leaves even appear. These blossoms can be pink, white, or even red. Bees love to visit these flowers to drink sweet nectar.
**Look Around You:** Next time you go outside in spring, look for buds on tree branches. Can you spot any that are just starting to open?
