What Is a Desert?
A desert is a place that gets very, very little rain. Most deserts get less rain in a whole year than your town gets in one month! During the day, deserts can be super hot — hot enough to fry an egg on a rock! But at night, deserts can get really cold. The ground in a desert might be sandy, rocky, or even covered with hard, cracked dirt. Even though deserts seem empty, lots of amazing animals and plants live there.
